What we keep, and why

We keep what it takes to teach you and to know whether the course is working: your email, your progress, and how long you spend here. We never sell or share it, there are no ads, and nothing goes to Google or any other analytics company.

Your account. The email address you sign in with, a display name made from it, and your timezone, which decides when your day ends for streaks. There are no passwords to keep: you sign in with a link.

Your learning. The circuits and answers you submit and whether they passed, your progress through each lesson, your XP, streaks, badges and certificates, and any readings you enter from your own bench.

How you use it. When you visit, which pages you open, and one note a minute while the tab is on screen and you have used it recently, so we can tell how long people spend learning. We also note the site you arrived from, as a website name only, and the campaign tag on a link if it had one, so we can tell which of our videos bring people here.

What we do not keep. We do not record your IP address or your device or browser details, and we do not record what you type as you type it: only the answers you choose to submit. We record nothing about visitors who have not started or signed in.

If you press Try it free, we make you a guest account with no email. Your progress is real and graded like anyone’s, but only your browser can get back to it. Save it with an email and nothing is lost. Sign into an account you already have instead, from the same browser, and we move what you did as a guest into that account and delete the guest one. A guest account nobody saves is deleted after 30 days without use.

Your account and learning are kept until you ask us to delete them. The notes on how you use the site are kept for 13 months and then deleted. When an account is deleted, its usage notes are kept without anything tying them to a person, so we still know how many people visited without knowing who.

Three services do work for us, and see only what that work needs: Supabase stores accounts and the database and sends sign-in emails; Cloudflare runs the check that you are not a bot, which looks at your browser and connection to do it; and our web host serves the site. Like any website, these services see your IP address to deliver pages and keep accounts safe; we do not keep it ourselves.

If a build sheet in the Workshop has a video, it plays from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced service, and YouTube receives what it needs to play it once you press play.

One kind: the cookies that keep you signed in. The site also stores a random, per-tab number in your browser so a visit can be counted once. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Voltage Guild is for people aged 13 and over. If you are younger, please use it with a parent or guardian’s account. If we learn that someone under 13 has made an account, we delete it.

You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account and everything in it. Contact privacy@voltageguild.com. We answer every request, wherever you live.

If this changes, we update the date at the top. If a change affects what we keep about you, we will tell you on the site before it takes effect.
